Day Nineteen: Surrendering to God’s Will

How do you want what you already have? When it is changing before your eyes and you are unsure of what you have? It all seems unidentifiable. You’re half crazy, worried, and scared, because whatever it is, you know it is yours, but you can’t quite grasp it.

Huh, what do I do now, God? Oh, is this where You creatively find some way to remind me to surrender to Your Will, and tell me it is not about wanting what is on the outside. It is about wanting what has always been inside because inside there isn’t any wanting, it is already yours. What is inside? Peace of mind, by way of surrender. Well now, You have given me something to think about. Thanks, I think.”

At birth, our Higher Power installed a key in each of us that is called surrender. We have to learn to use it. It is as simple as taking a few deep breaths, stepping back mentally 5 feet, then 50 feet and saying, “Higher Power apparently, I’m trying to Your job again & forgot that outcomes are Your department.” Then lighten up & say Hep-me, please Hep-me Higher Power to-get my hands outta-this. Surrendering is stress relief.

As my day begins –I am reminded that I have a well-worn key & will have some-things to surrender through-out this day. I will use the surrender key to return to peace, as needed and -honestly speaking because it feels good and I always want more of what feels good.

Focus today's recovery meditation on the First Step -We admitted that we were powerless over having problems; that our lives had become unmanageable.

Step One helps us begin a journey on a different road. When we have had enough of "our way" of solving our problem -be it problems with drugs, anger, worry, relationships... we surrender and admit we are powerless over having problems, but we are not powerless to find better ways to cope with them. We do the next right thing and surrender the outcome, we can't control the world. Manageability returns to us when realize that we don't have to do God's job.

Homework: Take a moment at some point today and Google Step One to gain more insight on how it can help you.
